How this Ontario tax calculator works

This tool applies the 2026 projected federal and Ontario tax brackets to your taxable income — your gross income minus RRSP contributions, union dues, childcare expenses and other deductions. It then subtracts the basic personal amount as a non-refundable credit at the lowest bracket rate to estimate your tax owing.

Switch to hourly pay to convert your rate, weekly hours and paid weeks into a yearly total before tax is calculated. The results show your estimated take-home pay, average tax rate and combined marginal tax rate.

This estimate excludes CPP/EI premiums, Ontario Health Premium, dividend gross-up, capital-gains inclusion, and most tax credits beyond the basic personal amount. For a full review, see our 2026 Canadian tax bracket guide or book a session with EstherIBK CPA.

Ways to lower your Ontario income tax

  • Maximize RRSP contributions. Contributions reduce your taxable income and can move you into a lower bracket.
  • Claim deductions you qualify for. Union dues, professional fees and childcare expenses lower taxable income.
  • Use TFSAs and FHSA for tax-free growth. Investment income inside these accounts does not generate immediate tax.
  • Split income where permitted. Pension splitting and spousal RRSPs can reduce household tax.
